Sarah C Gall | Data Scientist

Hello and welcome! I'm a London-based political data scientist serving clients globally. I specialise in providing public affairs consultants, opinion researchers, and campaign teams with customised data processing tools, in-depth analyses, and bespoke visualisations that enhance and support their work. My experience spans the top levels of government and political campaigning. Combined with a broad set of technical skills, I am uniquely positioned to deliver solutions that are tailored to the specific needs of each project.

The skills that I have accumulated

My fascination with technology started at the age of five, when I was given a choice between ballet lessons and playing on the school computers — I chose the latter. Since those early days on Windows '95 MS Paint, my technical skills have evolved into a comprehensive set of tools. I proficiently use R and Python for sophisticated data analysis and employ D3.js and Svelte to create advanced interactive visualisations. As a self-taught developer, I continuously expand my capabilities to ensure that I deliver the best solutions to my clients.

Tools & Tech

  • R (incl. dplyr, ggplot2), Shiny, Stan, QGIS
  • Python (incl. MATPLOTLIB, sklearn, pandas, numpy), Plotly, Django
  • D3.js, HTML, CSS, Svelte
  • Git, AWS, Azure
  • Adobe Creative Cloud (incl. Illustrator, InDesign)

Education

  • Bachelor of Science (Human Physiology)
    University of Melbourne
  • Master of Culture, Health and Medicine (Health Policy & Applied Epidemiology)
    Australian National University
  • Professional Certificate in Data Science
    HarvardX

Professional Affiliations

  • Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society, and Member of the Market Research Society (MRS) and Data Visualization Society
  • Awarded the UK's Global Talent visa. Endorsed by Tech Nation as a leader in the digital tech industry, satisfying the criteria for 'Exceptional Talent'

Where my work has taken me

A bit about me...

Perhaps to the surprise of many who know me now, but school was not for me. Instead, my sister and I spent our time swimming and playing water polo at an elite level. This involved getting ourselves up at 4am to train before, and after, school every day. This rigorous routine instilled in me perseverance, the ability to handle pressure, and exceptional organisational skills — qualities that have been invaluable throughout my career.

When I moved to Canberra to start my master’s degree, I reached out to every conservative-leaning MP and Senator asking if they had a job. Fortunately one did, launching me into the exhilarating world of being in parliament over the next five years. I advanced to become the Head of Research to the Prime Minister of Australia, where I honed my political research skills and ensured campaign readiness by preempting all data and insight needs.

Upon relocating to the UK, I took advantage of the pandemic downtime to accelerate my data science education, completing an 18-month course in just three months. Since then, I’ve expanded my programming and data visualisation skills by learning new languages, more efficient data handling methods, and exploring different ways of communicating data.

For the past four years, I’ve been privileged to do what I love, applying my skills at the intersection of politics, data, tech, and design. Outside of work, I continue to stay active with kickboxing, shooting, and reeling. I also enjoy drawing, travelling to new countries, and keeping up my 400+ day streak on Duolingo.
